Kelly Nixon is a highly skilled and versatile artist, with 9 years of experience both as a Freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer, on a part-time basis, and an Art Instructor, on a full-time basis (Kelly has been working in both fields simultaneously). As an Art Instructor, Kelly has instructed/educated children and adults of all ages in the Visual Arts. As an Illustrator/Graphic Designer, Kelly has the ability to work in various styles and has expertise with various digital, painting, drawing, and craft mediums.
Kelly is a December 2011 graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Major in Communication Arts (illustration and design), a Major in Art Education, and a Minor in Marketing. While in college, Kelly the opportunity to learn from some of the finest professors and professional artists. Over the years, she has often been praised by professors, colleagues, and clients for her strong pieces of artwork. They have complimented Kelly on her attention to detail, strong craftsmanship, creativity, range of artistic abilities, flexibility, communication skills, problem-solving skills, and overall calm demeanor. Kelly has a strong work ethic and likes to make sure projects are done on time and are done to the absolute best of her ability. She loves the problem-solving aspect of art making and is constantly learning new ideas and techniques, which are then applied to her artwork.
As an Illustrator/Graphic Designer, Kelly has designed and created various artworks for business logos, tattoo designs, event posters, T-shirt designs, and commissioned paintings of animals and architecture. This work routinely includes discussion of a concept with the client, preliminary sketches, feedback, revisions, digitizing original drawings, completion of artwork digitally using programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Kelly completes any further digital revisions, as requested by the client. Kelly has transitioned to often doing sketch work directly on the computer with a drawing tablet to speed up her work flow and creative process. Other work, like commissioned paintings she creates with various drawing, watercolor, and painting mediums.
Kelly currently lives and works out of the Richmond, Virginia area with her family.
